Surprises in Salzburg

Sazlburg was a half-day stop-over. It resembles my idea of a typical Swiss town. Clean and tidy town with low-rising pastel-coloured shophouses lining narrow cobblestone streets.

Can't say that it is really picturesque but 2 unplanned events made the stopover a memorable one.

First was this walk-around town procession held to celebrate the birth of Radio Maria (yes, as in Mother Maria). The procession went about town, punctuating the chorusses of their upbeat holy songs with flails of arms in the air and waving enthusiastically to the town citizens who have opened their windows to check out what the din was about. Amused by the happennings, we followed the crowd till their approach to the ending point at a hilltop nunnery where Maria (protaganist of the Sound of Music story) came from.

This was followed by an about-town wandering. Upon passing by a pub, SK was approached warmly by two intoxicated angmohs to help them play a prank on their mate by placing his glass of wine at the top of a door frame. He gamely agreed but with the semi-drunk ang mohs providing a base for his ascent, his attempt was unsuccessful.

One of the ang mohs was grateful and then invited us to join them for beer. In his intoxicated state,we found out that they belong to some fratboy-like group who have gathered from all over Austria for some occasion.
